Is Anyone Having Car Troubles?

My boyfriend and I bought a 2015 Ford Fusion in September since my old car was stolen. The Fusion didn’t have many miles on it ran great. It started having problems around January, but we just brought it to a mechanic this week since we didn’t have the money to fix it. We heard back from the mechanic and they said it’s unfixable and they have no idea what’s wrong. The mechanic we go to is very reputable and has always been fantastic whenever we had car troubles. We still owe $8,000 on the car that is impossible to even drive. I feel so defeated; I feel like I can’t stop crying. Any advice for the situation is appreciated. A side note, we don’t have it insured except for liability so that’s not an option plus the warranty expired.

  • I had a car collision last Friday evening and I told the insurance company that it was my fault by giving my apologies to the person talking to me on the phone line. I mean, I did apologized to the insurer, the other driver of the other vehicle involved on the car accident with me and to the law enforcement officer. And now guest what?? Now I'm fighting for my auto insurer's claim offer after a total loss to be more fair because they don't want to pay my car and I have a lot of bills on top of my head for me to keep paying for a car that I don't have anymore.

  • I've a former Ford employee and a months ago current dealer employee. There are a few options you have. 1. You can take it to your local Ford dealer and get it diagnosed and you can decline repairs after finding out what’s wrong with it. 2. You can trade the car in even though you owe 8k. If you take the car to a Ford dealership to get diagrams you decline repairs the dealership might wave your vehicle diagnostics cost of you decide to buy a car from them! Hopefully that makes sense

  • you aren't gona get $8000. Trade in for that car and how can he say it’s unfixable if he doesn’t know what’s wrong with it. Besides, a mechanic that claims that a vehicle is “unfixable” yet says they don’t know what’s wrong....is NOT a true mechanic. I’d take it somewhere else!

I just drive brand news cars because I hate to be left down the road with a broken vehicle and alone, it is horrible and dangerous these days.

Get another opinion. What happened to it? Just stop working, makes a weird noise? Wonder if it could be a recall issue. Who did you buy it from. How long after you bought it did it die?

Try to never get emotional about a "thing". You can't think straight that way. I never get emotional about money either. I think of it as numbers. I try to make the numbers bigger with every transaction if I can. Get a different mechanic. I think you need someone to look at this in a different way.

So sorry you're having this issue. My son is a master certified technician and I've never heard him say something is un-fixable.
I recognize that your story confuses me as well.

            • Deena Johnson

Yep my brother is a mechanic, never heard unfixable. Though I have heard "F that sh...*t, it ain't worth fixing. (Usually about Chevys or PT cruisers.)
In my opinion is :  No such thing as an unfixable car. Take it somewhere else

Exactly! My ex-husband was a mechanic and he said the same thing. Sadly, he knew how crappy so many are that claim to be a “mechanic.”

                • Dana Cookson

Should be a lemon law and the car should be under warranty, even thought, I think that lemon laws don’t apply on cars that old.

Every car in the US. market have a need to get fix by a car mechanic at their shop., I never seen a vehicle that doesn't need a technician service. All autos give problems and they run if some takes care of them, they are running machines and need to be adjusted.

Any damage history? Accidents? Unfixable just doesn’t seem right with me. I’m a mechanic and there is almost always a solution unless the whole uni-body is twisted or rusted out.

Agree. You should get another opinion from an expert mechanic with good reputation.

When I had car troubles , there was no damage history that I know of anyways. While my car is driving, the way I felt it's driving was like it was a jerk and feel unstable as if it’s about to pull me off the road. We were told it needed tires and an alignment. That fixed the issue for a couple months and then it did the same thing again. The front tires wore completely bald in three months.

                            • My husband is up now. He wants to know if the check engine light is on.
He needs to look to see what kind of power steering this car has. He says you dont need it but if he had the codes he could start there.
                              What city are you in?
There seems to be an ongoing problem with this car with the rack and pinion. Power steering assist is messing up on these cars. ITS GOT A RECALL from 2013 to 2016.

Whenever they say "I don't know what's wrong" in the same breath as "it can't be fixed" it's time for a second opinion.

                              • Totally agree, I took my car to my mechanic and he told me no idea, he can’t fix it. I bought a 2015 Kia, then sold my broke car to one of those companies that pick it up and tow it away. It had been dead in my driveway for a couple months wouldn’t start. The tow truck guy shows up and jumps it with his huge battery thing ( lol ) damn car started right away and he drove it onto the tow bed..I was so mad. Didn’t have a car payment on it and was planning on driving it until my son graduated. I 100% second, getting a second opinion!!

                              • Are there any recalls on your vehicle that would cause failure or malfunction. Search vehicle recall notices online and input your vin number. Should tell you if there are any recalls or known malfunctions.

                              • First problem: you bought a Ford, they tend to circle their problem...lol sorry.
Second: what exactly is the car doing? Will it start but not go into gear? If it won't start, does it turn over? If it turns over, do you hear clicking or a loud whir kinda like a grinder or very vaguely like a vacuum? If it won't start at all and you hear no noise First jump or swap the battery. Then listen for the above sounds. There are only a couple "unfixable" things like a seized engine or a blown out transmission and those can be fixed with swaps. If I had to guess with no other information I'd say its an electrical and/or computer issue Fords are notorious for having electronic issues. Or it could be an issue with your charging system aka your alternator which typically need replacing every 100k miles give or take, could maybe be a starter issue. Hard to say without seeing the car myself but in any case 8t is most definitely fixable. May not be cheap engine and transmission swaps are rather pricey but it can be fixed.

You sound like every member of my family about Fords.
My husband is a mechanic. I’m going to ask him what he thinks. I have never in my life heard that the car is unfixable.

                                  • Lisa Woolard

Take it to a Ford dealership. They’re trained and work on Fords all day long. Personally I think they’re worth the money compared to a regular mechanic.
Depending on what it’s doing, it could be the Transmission Control Module. I own a 2015 focus and both the Focus and Fusion models from that year have had recalls on the transmissions. Check any open recalls and take it to a Ford dealer.
Also, buy some insurance. Some lenders will pull the loan and repo the car if they find out you’re not carrying full coverage.

                                  • if its a recall issue a Ford dealership will fix at no cost.
Unfixable but doesn’t know what’s wrong ?!?! Oh come on. Bring it to a Ford dealership at least.

                                    • Lauren Dotson

Is the problem with the transmission? There's been documented issues against Ford for issues with the Fiesta, Focus, and Fusion. Do your research; you may need to deal with Ford directly if the vehicle is out of warranty.

I hate old cars and bad unreliable car brands.
I decided to stay away from used vehicles that only bring woories to my life and decided to save some money for a down payment and buy new only.

                                            •  I hope it’s not a transmission issue. The 2015 focus and fusion have a recall on the TCM but it’s out of stock/ out of production until spring of next year at the earliest. I got lucky when mine went out of my 15 focus that the dealership went above and beyond to get one for me so I wouldn’t be out of a car for a year.

So true, I absolutely love my Toyota Corolla. After the first one died after 15 years and that too since hubs didn't take good care of the car, I went out and bought another Corolla!
I have had many cars my most reliable a Mazda and a Toyota the last 7 years. Worst was a brand new Holden didn’t even get to 10,000 Miles before it let me down

I third this answer when I read your statement unfixable I had to stop myself from laughing I've seen so many cars come from a junkyard that hasn't ran for years and they're fixable so I think someone could fix your Ford even though it stands for found on road dead LOL sorry I'm a Chevy girl.
But seriously get another mechanic quickly!!
Also I'm sorry really sorry to hear about your car getting stolen I know exactly how you feel 2 years ago my Genesis vehicle was stolen out of my driveway and I had two payments left into this day they still have yet to find out who stole it but they did find my car to tell me that it was sitting in the middle of the road smashed the pieces 2 Days later after whoever stole it hit a brand new Jaguar. I am just very thankful that I had triple a insurance and my son noticed that my car was gone.

Let us know if you ever found that car.

                                                • It depends on how the car is treated and it’s hit or miss with cars IMO. I had a Chevy Tracker I bought brand new in 2004 and no issues. I sold it in 2017 as I wanted a new SUV.

Bring it to a Ford dealer. They also have dealership payment plans or just take it for a second opinion. My husband is a master tech, not many 2015 are "unfixable".... everything is fixable. My husband would be FIRED if he told someone he didn't know what was wrong with their vehicle!!!!!! Go somewhere else!!!!!!! They DO NOT know what they are doing, if they told you "we don't know what's wrong!!" That is the most hilarious answer of the year!!!!!! They don't know what's wrong!!!! Ba ha hahaha... now that's funny!!!! For your own sake, get it out of there and get a second opinion!! Better yet. A Ford Dealership.

My thoughts are with you and hopping you can fix your car troubles, or that you can rent, lease or buy a new vehicle with full warranties bumper to bumper.

Good morning, my brother (he is an experience car mechanic) said it could be something bent like a control arm and it's not being seeing on the alignment rack, or a rack and pinion. There were recalls on those in some vehicles. He said call the dealership with your Vin # code to see if you have a recall and that a dealership or frame shop is where he'd go vs a day to day mechanic.

                                                                  • I always have a car trouble. The majority of times used old automobiles and sometimes brand new cars. If an oil change considered car problems, then we all need to pay more attention because not changing the fluids on the car can cause an overheating of the engine and therefore say good bye to your vehicle because it will break and burn,
