Any Frugal Ways To Keep Occupied While Injured In An Accident?
Frugal ways to keep occupied while injured in an accident?
My older sister broke her leg quite severely and is going to be effectively bed ridden for a few weeks and then after that will slowly start working up to walking again, but it's going to be well into the new year before she's totally back to normal. We're trying to figure out what she should do while stuck on the couch at home. Three days of TV and she's already over it. We don't have a laptop for her to utilize, she just has her phone. We're tight on money because she's out of work for this injury, but we're scrambling for frugal ideas on how to keep her occupied and prevent a depression from setting in.
People at home hurt with an injury and being under doctors surveillance orders get depressed and then they don't know exactly what to do or where to go.

There is something called Great Courses that you can take for free with your library card.
Another idea is to perhaps become pen pals with snail mail with either some existing friends and family or write encouraging notes to people in the military. Its so shocking to crash then the flashback for me makes me sad...
Work on a day walk to try to get pleasant with this moment give permission to grieve the past . And try to find some new gig that is profitable and relaxing. Dog walks? Good luck but you are not. Alone.- By Salma Hayek
Now that she has this " free time " (Not planned! ) maybe there's a subject shes always been interested in but never had time to research. I have to do everything on my phone too, and its rough on my eyes, so books are better.
Ive been sick for periods of time, and spent it learning more about the birds in my area, native plants and which are medicinal, horse training, dog breeds and training, art, Photography, the list is endless. ( Her interests are probably quite different ! ) I like reading well written cookbooks, editing photos on my phone with an easily installed app or in the computer with a free download photo editor program.
Audible books are great too. I have a tendency to fall asleep listening to them though. I have an upcoming surgery and will be focusing on finally organizing and documenting my hundreds of photos. Should keep me busy for a while while I recover.
Does she like to read? If so, library books! A lot of libraries have online requests for books so she could reserve books and you could pick them up for her.
I had to deal with this! An unexpected cancer diagnosis is September, surgery in October, and bed rest then "light duty" life for a couple months (biopsy came back today and they got it all!!) Apps like Libby for free books, or you can get 2 free books and a number of podcasts from audible for signing up, Tubi for free movies, iHeartRadio for free music and podcasts.. but what helped me was focusing on others. Write a card or a letter, make a phone call.. check in with people you don't often. I had an online Scentsy party to earn free products, and discovered new FB groups with interests I was new to just out of curiosity.
When I had an op on my ankle (bad break, 6 weeks non weight bearing) .. I stayed with my parents... to be honest, as well as books, TV etc.. I got my mum to bring me food to prep for dinner.. sorted through some of the junk accumulated over my years living there to go to dump / sell on market place / charity shop... it quickly gets to you the feeling of uselessness (especially if you're used to running about doing stuff) .. wish her a speedy recovery!

She can escape into a novel! Takes the mind away from reality ( if only for a little while) & nourishes the soul! Used books at thrift stores are dirt cheap! That’s where I get most of mine!

I had 2 knee replacements 2 years ago. One at a time so had 12 weeks recovery time.
I got library cards from 5 different libraries.
I downloaded the app.
Libby at Overdrive.
I read lots of FREE electronic books.
It is what saved my sanity.
In Colorado...we can get a card from any Library as long as I live in Colorado.
Each library has different book series that I enjoy. - By Darcy Martin
Definitely use you tube to learn how to do something she’s interested in. Also the library has free resources and books. Some libraries even have adult classes and activities although they’re more difficult to find but look at neighboring cities and towns I found a few that way.
I took over my mother’s genealogy work and made it back to the late 1700’s by using my online library card. Warning: its as addictive as it is frustrating!
Also the Pinterest social media website. Not only is there information for any interest she could have, she can also create her own boards, vision board, interests. The rabbit hole is endless!

Take this time to draw closer to God. Look out the windows and really SEE the change of seasons. Read a book you haven't had the time to before know. ( the Bible was a good one tor me )
Write poetry, short or long stories - look to your family and life and try to fix the mistakes you made. - By Dana Cookson

Know you are not alone. It is very difficult. I have been laid up with a broken foot. Have had anxiety attacks and ‘heebie jeebies’, cried, been pitiful and felt pitiful.
Think I watched every documentary. Watched nearly everything on U-tube. Should be able to build a house, sew anything, and be the best chef (get my drift).
Bored my friends on Facebook. Renewed old friendships on Facebook.
All and all I survived and learned new things about my self.
Word searches, draw, coloring, puzzles, list of things to do when I am able (rewrite list many times) appreciate husband, don’t appreciate husband. Same for job and friends.
Grateful again for many things, sometimes not.
Good luck and God bless.
Hopefully I’ll be free and sane in a couple of more weeks.
Good suggestions on here. - By Letha Cherry
Definitely pick up crocheting! Best way to pass the time if you’re stuck on the couch, not too pricey (depending on the yarn you buy).
If that’s not your style try to sketch or paint. I like to pick one subject and paint various versions of it like the art teacher in the book Speak had his students do. Coloring, pick a series and watch episode every day, reading on Amazon, card games, couponing (collecting coupons), journalism, I’ve been home since September from Covid pneumonia it’s very boring in the beginning then you learn to tolerate it, remember this time is for healing, good luck

Knitting or crocheting. My mom did this when she broke her ankle in 3 places. She made hats that she donated to a local cancer center. Yarn can get expensive, so I posted the purpose in local buy nothing pages, and people were incredibly generous with the yarn they had lying around.

It’s a great time to get that box of old paperwork in the office sent thru the shredder!
Best wishes for a quick recovery! She could make macrame art and sell it online! That’s all sitting down and will keep her mind busy! The materials aren’t pricey, just cotton string.
May be an image of macrame and text that says '5:58 Marca: Mkono 3,201 Mkono Macrame Plant Hangers Set of 4 Indoor Wall Hanging Planter Basket Flower Pot Holder Boho Home Decor Gift Box ’ג’גג Translation Available'After my girlfriend’s car accident, she was stuck in bed for months. It sucked for her since she’s such an active person and was used to doing her designing job everyday. She learned how to crochet to keep herself busy. She liked being able to produce something instead of just laying there, I love her so much.
Sending hugs and prayers from some one who was stuck with a fractured shoulder and torn roto cuff (a car accident). I was also going nuts with TV at that time. I was reading all kinds of crazy books, listening to music, doing Sudoku puzzles, de-cluttering and organizing paperwork for tax season. Found coloring apps on my phone that help. Also keeping a gratitude journal has helped keep the depression away and more!
From a nurse's husband and a health trainee - be sure to exercise unaffected limbs. Just simple movements and stretching helps a lot. Also constipation can be an issue because of less movement. Best wishes as you recover!
I'd ask if any of your friends have a laptop she could borrow.
Do you have internet? I know Victoria's secret was hiring work from home CSRs (seriously). Most work from home CSR is in the afternoon / evening so it might require a shift in time management.Write letters! I write to nursing home residents put in individual envelopes and send to facilities to pass out to who ever they think need a pick me up. Use phone and make welfare checks. Leave messages just so someone knows. Keep a journal write whatever works. List is endless and cost little. On cookie sheet put vegetables to be cut up then bag for frig. That’s my go to list spending very little money.

I hope she isn't in pain for her injury. I guess once she gets the practice, it wil be very easy for her to walk fast.
It really looks difficult for her to walk on one foot and the cratches.
