I hate to complain about messy store problems in general because i am very grateful to be able to go into the few stores that are still open.. BUT that being said. The Dollar General Store was an absolute disaster today. I tried to chalk it up to the “it’s the holiday season” and “they’re short handed” but Every Single Dollar Store Employee i saw while i was there was staring at their phone like ZOMBIES.. or gossiping in the corner with other coworkers! I didn’t see even ONE worker actually working minus the single cashier. Being short handed is such a sad excuse anymore because I for one have been looking for a seasonal job since September and people are so picky about hiring that I still have yet to find a job, with dollar general careers or anywhere. And I know others that are in the same boat. So regardless, the workers you do have are standing around not working at all with dirty merchandise scattered every where what a mess! It was like walking into explosion after effects down every single aisle, and not just the clearance either. Which is to be expected but products slewn around every department and every aisle? Seriously looked like an end of times situation. And again, i get it’s the holidays but if I were a Dollar store manager there I would be severely upset! Because you’re wasting pay roll money on dummies to just stand around and literally walk right past stuff laying on the dirty ground and doing nothing about it!

How embarrassing and I see a definite management issue! I have been in retail management for over 25 years. This makes my eye twitch. Cell phones are a real problem at most work places these days. They are a major distraction and should not be allowed on the sales floor. Every store has a land line phone in case there is an emergency and the employees need to be contacted. The only reason to have a cell on the floor is to check socials and/or text. The condition of this store is inexcusable and while I know all too well how messy customers can be it absolutely is still an employee’s job to recover the store and keep it clean and shoppable. Obviously I can not know for sure but I have a hard time believing that this completely messy store happened in one day. That floor alone appears as if it hasn’t been swept in days. This is clearly a management issue. Short staffing is a management issue. Hire enough people to keep up with the needs of the business. Walk your floor. Assign sections to recover and put back items. This is completely unacceptable and I would lose my whole mind if I walked into one of my stores and found them in this kind of shape!
